You may recall how the Dayton Daily News spoke with Ron Smith, the father of 28-year-old Tristin Kate Smith, a Dayton nurse who died by suicide in August 2023.
She left a letter detailing her pain, titled “A Letter to My Abuser.”
“That letter was shared far and wide among the nursing community, and it definitely resonates with all of us,” Rick Lucas, president and executive director of the Ohio Nurses Association, told the Dayton Daily News.
Ohio Gov. DeWine signs hospital violence prevention bill amplified by Dayton nurse’s death
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed a bill late Wednesday requiring hospitals to do more to address violence toward nurses, doctors and other employees, including tracking incidents of violence.
The bill: House Bill 452, sponsored by state Rep. Andrea White, R-Kettering, and state Rep. Rachel Baker, D-Cincinnati, will require hospitals to produce security plans for preventing violence, along with a reporting system.

Success of boutique lets owners move to larger location in downtown Miamisburg

What happened: A women’s clothing and accessories shop that opened in Preble County in early 2024 is moving to a larger Montgomery County space to accommodate popular offerings.
The Paddock Particulars: Paddock Road Boutique opened last January at a 550-square-foot Eaton storefront, but booming business necessitated a move to an 800-square-foot space at 360 S. Main St. in downtown Miamisburg.
What they’re saying: Owner Crystal Stanley said she and her husband, Chris, liked what they saw in Miamisburg.
“We happened to travel to Miamisburg one weekend to have dinner and while walking down Main Street stumbled upon a storefront for rent,” Stanley said. “Amazed with how Miamisburg had grown, I immediately knew this was the right move to grow the boutique.”

Free pizza: Jet’s Pizza is celebrating the grand opening of its newest location in the Dayton region Tuesday, Jan. 14 with free pizza.
Conditions, provisos, etc. Customers who visit the new store, at 216 Springboro Pike, Miamisburg, from 4 to 8 p.m. will receive a free small, four -corner pizza with just cheese or cheese and pepperoni.
The deal is available only for walk-ins, one pizza per person, while supplies last.
Who’s in charge of snow-covered sidewalks?
Short answer: If you’re a property owner or resident, you probably are.
Slight longer answer: It’s complicated. Communities have varying regulations that you might want to get to know.
Forecasts change. But at this writing, the forecast I’m looking at doesn’t promise high temperatures above freezing until a week from today. So the question of impassable sidewalks isn’t going away anytime soon.
A new full-service grocery in Southwest Dayton celebrates a soft opening this week
What’s happening: Gettysburg Grocery (GGs for short) is having soft opening Thursday and today, and store hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why this matters: Homefull leaders say the store will sell thousands of products, including fresh food, household goods and plenty more. They say this store will help address a food desert in this part of Dayton.
